Prompt Engineering for Crypto Editorial QA: Patterns That Actually Work

Generic AI prompts produce generic results. The editorial AI workflows that actually save time and improve quality use highly specific, context-rich prompts designed for particular editorial tasks. Here are the patterns I've developed over two years of building AI-assisted newsroom tools.

The Role-Context-Task-Format Framework

Every effective editorial prompt follows this structure: define the role (you are a senior crypto editor), provide context (here is our style guide, here is the article), specify the task (check for factual accuracy), and define the format (return a structured JSON with issues found).

Skipping any element degrades output quality significantly. The context element is the most commonly under-specified — feeding your actual style guide, recent editorial corrections, and publication-specific rules dramatically improves results.

Fact-Checking Prompts

For crypto content, fact-checking prompts need to flag specific risk patterns: unverified price claims, outdated TVL figures, incorrect token supply numbers, conflation of different blockchain networks, and unsourced percentage gains. The prompt should reference authoritative data sources and ask the AI to flag claims it cannot independently verify rather than hallucinate confirmations.

SEO Metadata Generation

Generating meta descriptions, Open Graph titles, and URL slugs is one of the highest-ROI automation targets. The prompt takes the full article content plus your target keyword and generates metadata that's the correct character length, includes the primary keyword naturally, is compelling enough to drive clicks from search results, and avoids duplicate patterns across articles.

Style Guide Compliance

This is where AI shines — checking whether an article follows your specific conventions. Feed the AI your complete style guide and ask it to identify every deviation in the submitted article. This catches inconsistencies that human editors miss when reviewing 20+ articles per day: "Bitcoin" vs "bitcoin" capitalization, inconsistent date formats, and missing disclaimers on investment-adjacent content.

The Key Insight: Specificity Over Sophistication

The best editorial AI prompts aren't clever — they're specific. A 500-word prompt that precisely describes what to check for will outperform a 50-word clever prompt every time. Invest the time in writing detailed, example-rich prompts and iterate based on the actual errors they catch versus miss.
